Improves Behavior, Performance, and
Well-being
and Enhances the Relationship Between Horse and Rider.
How does it work?
Many horses lack awareness of their body and how they use
their body. This creates stress and tension, leading to behaviour problems
and decreased performance potential. Tellington-Touch influences the horses
nervous system and the way it organises and uses its body. This gives the
opportunity for change, leading to improved awareness and movement patterns.
Performance horses that never realise their potential and
those that don´t fully recover their ability after injury may be holding the
memory of injury, and the associated tension, at a cellular level (even if
the injury is an old one). Tellington-TTouch can help release these tensions
and allow the animal to reach its full potential.
What is TTouch?
TTouch - the Tellington TTouch - is a method based on circular movements
of the fingers and hands all over the body. The intent of the TTouch is to
activate the function of the cells and awaken cellular intelligence - a
little like "turning on the electric lights of the body."
The TTouch is done on the entire body, and each circular TTouch is
complete within itself. Therefore it is not necessary to understand anatomy
to be successful in speeding up the healing of injuries or ailments, or
changing undesirable habits or behavior.
Linda Tellington-Jones created the TTouch in 1983 for the training and
care of horses and other animals. While learning TTouch for their animals,
horse and pet owners practiced these techniques on each other to better
understand what their animals were experiencing. Effectiveness of the TTouch
for people became apparent. Over the years, people of all ages realized a
newfound sense of well-being and renewal using TTouch. They also got relief
from everyday physical and emotional issues such as headaches, backache,
neck pain, depression, and sensitivity to touch.

Body training with basic elements
of Centered Riding
What are the Benefits of Centered Riding?
Centered Riding teaches you how to help your body do
what you need to do in order to ride well. Centered
Riding techniques help promote suppleness, stability,
and clearer aids, making riding more comfortable for
both horse and rider. As you learn and experience the
principles through your horse's motion and responses,
you and your horse tune in to each other and work
together in harmony. These techniques can increase
confidence and enjoyment and release tension in horses
and riders, making training easier. They also help
people cope with old injuries or chronic conditions that
cause pain during or after riding.
Centered Riding is used successfully by riders and
instructors of all ages, interests, and levels, from
pleasure riders to international competitors, and in
therapeutic riding. It can be applied to any type of
horse or horsemanship. Most of all, it makes riding more
enjoyable for horses and riders.
How does it work?
Many people are caught in the trap of unconscious habit. The way
you use your body feels normal and familiar, even if you have
habitual patterns which cause you to be stiff, crooked, or out
of balance. Of course, your horse feels and reacts to the way
you use your body, right or wrong, which can lead to
mis-communication and discomfort. Centered Riding helps you
become more aware of your body and its potential. You discover
an inner balance, serenity, and control that allows for greater
freedom, suppleness and coordination; your horse will respond
with increased balance, poise, and forward motion. You and your
horse become one, enjoying open communication and ease of
movement.
What are the basic techniques of Centered Riding?
 |
Soft Eyes - Encourage
visual and physical awareness, better peripheral
vision, and improved “feel.” |
 |
Breathing - Using the
diaphragm and breathing correctly for better
posture, relaxation, and energy. |
 |
Balance or Building Blocks
- Aligns the riders body for improved balance,
straightness, and ease of movement. |
 |
Centering - Using the
center of balance, movement and control, located
deep in the body, gives quiet strength, harmony and
power, as in the oriental martial arts. |
These fundamentals, along with clear intent
for effective control, direction and use of aids, and
grounding for stability and
balance, promote freedom of movement, confidence and
harmony between horse and rider, and can help in solving
many problems.
